The headline: Indiana appeals court upholds privacy of abortion reports

TLDR:

• PRIVACY WINS!!!
  Indiana will no longer have to tell everyone and their cousin’s brother’s dog that you had an abortion. Yay! Indiana’s Court of Appeals decided to uphold a judge’s order BLOCKING the state’s Department of Health from releasing doctor reports about individual abortions. “Terminated-pregnancy reports” (TPRs) are now protected as private medical records, babayyyy!

• HIPHIPAA HOORAY
  These TPRs include deets like names, procedure dates, age, and were being released for YEARS – AKA a dream for those sipping the abortion-haterade. Remember the horrific 2023 case of a pregnant 10-year-old and her doctor, Dr. Caitlin Bernard? These TPRs are the whole reason why a 10-year-old child’s private medical records became national headlines.

• WHAT’S NEXT!
  The good: all sensitive patient AND provider data stays private, so anti-abortion harassholes, journalists, or anyone else can’t use it to identify or shame patients or doctors.
  The bleh: the decision could be appealed to the Indiana Supreme Court. We’re staying hopeful and keeping our eyeballs and ears on it!

The headline: Makary, Makary Stuck in Quite the Quagmire-y

TLDR:

• What’s Up, Doc?
  Awww Dr. Marty Makary, FDA Commissioner, got himself in a pickle, people! Dr. Quackary promised to “review” the abortion pill in response to that totally BS anti-abortion “study” of mifepristone before the end of the year. Babes… it’s the end of the year.

• Dragging His Feetus
  After the last couple of elections making it CLEAR AS FREAKING DAY that the people WANT abortion access in the country, it looks like Marty is dragging his feet, toes, and RFK’s brainworm along the way to delaying the review process on mifepristone—AKA THE PILL THAT IS SAFER THAN TYLENOL—until AFTER the 2026 midterm elections. Wonder why he would want to wait until AFTER the elections we’re pretty sure conservatives will get totally hosed in? Couldn’t tell ya!!!

• Reality Check
  Mifepristone is one of the safest, most studied medications out there. The anti-abobies boys club are out of tricks to pull and are clinging to this tactic of stalling the review for as long as they can. Delay = denial and putting off evidence-based care to dodge backlash does nothing but shove abortion access to the back of the line for almost another year.
